Language World Picture as a Basic Concept of Contemporary Cognitive Linguistics

The article deals with the term «Language world picture», its origin, development and modern status. Different approaches to its definition are highlighted in this work; the boundaries of adjacent term categories are determined.

Multilingualism is conditioned by heterogeneous composition of modern world of nations. The social function of a language is represented in the formation of national identity and national state. The language reflects the contradiction of global and local components under globalism.

The Tatistics of Softening the Categoricity of the Statement (on the Material of the Author’s Personal Notes of Conversational Speech)

The article describes certain tactics and means used to soften the categoricity of the statement, which include the tactics of preventing the addressee’s negative reaction, the tactics of objection disguised as consent, the tactics of authorizing constructions, the tactics of employing non-categorical estimation and others.

Peculiarities of Subject Expression in Sentences with Adverbial Complicators in Different Communication Spheres (on the material of the modern fiction, press and colloquial speech)

The article is dedicated to examination of the ways of expression of subject in sentences with adverbial complicators in modern fiction, press and colloquial speech. The aim of this article is to prove that the features of functioning of an adverbial complicator do not determine of selection of the ways of expression of subject. Some peculiarities of subject in sentences with adverbial complicators depend on characteristics of a sphere of communication.

Event and Its Participants (Based on the Associative Fields of Event Stimuli)

The article deals with event structure in the form in which it is reflected in the associative fields of the event names. The emphasis is made on the slot «Event participants», marked out in the procedure of the frame analysis of event stimuli’s associative fields. Different types of events are shown to have their own typical sets of participants; further analysis is made to mark out the participants’ ontological varieties, as well as the roles performed by them in what is going on.

The article specifies the semantic amount of the fundamental action verbs in the English, German, French, and Italian languages on the basis of the comparative approach ; the degree of their eurysemy is established.

Nominations of Animals Characterized by Childishness, Immaturity, in the Don Cossack Dialects

The article considers nominations of cubs of wild and domesticated animals and birds in Don Cossack dialects, generating word-stems and the peculiarities of such nominations’ word-formation are determined.
