Concept LABOUR and its Representatives in the English Language Idioms

The article deals with the research of the concept labour in the traditional world picture of the English language. This concept has a layered structure. The informative (notional) zone of the concept is to a large degree predetermined by its lexical representatives within the idioms, and the evaluative zone helps to reveal the attitude of the linguistic community to this phenomenon.

Concept ‘Ouevre’ in K. Pavlova’s Idiostyle

The article analyzes how the concept ‘oeuvre’ functions in K. Pavlova’s poetry. The analysis of the language material within the semantic field ‘oeuvre’ leads to the conclusion that this field is the key one in K. Pavlova’s world-view and outlook. Notion and meaning nucleus of the word ‘oeuvre’ becomes conceptual for K. Pavlova’s poetic practice.

Allusive Background of the Text Paradigms of Meaning in the Novel «Budda’s Return» by G. I. Gazdanov

The article describes textual functions of the key allusions to the Buddist philosophy on the example of the novel «Budda’s Return» by G. I. Gazdanov. These allusions are enhanced by foregrounding interword textual paradigms of meaning (like synonyms, antonyms, species and genus combinations, periphrases, associative and thematic convergence).

Conflict Speech Tactics in the Russian and English Pedagogical Communication in the First Half of the XIXth (on the Material of Ch. Bronte’s and L. Charskya’s Works)

The article considers synonymic relationships between derivational patterns within the boundaries of one derivational category. Heterogeneity of factors determining the distribution of synonymic pattern formants identified in the course of research allows to distinguish different types of derivational synonymy.

Competition Between Capital and Lower-case Letters in the Modern Russian Language

The article is dedicated to the modern problems of the use of a capital letter in compound names of authorities, the state documents and positions. The main reasons for the developed diarchy in the spelling rules are revealed in the article. The use of a capital letter as the instrument of creating a hierarchy is also considered. The samples from newspaper texts and specialized legal reference books are offered as illustrations.

The article is dedicated to the research of the interaction of strangers in the oral informal communication.

Language Representation of Concept Health in Etiquette (on the Basis of the Russian and English Languages)

The article is devoted to the comparative study of ways and methods of concept HEALTH representation in modern Russian and English etiquette phrases including phraseological units and proverbs. Theoretical issues are considered in the article. They concern the mechanisms of concept verbalization in standard colloquial expressions of unrelated linguistic cultures. The basic cognitive signs that allow to determine similarities and differences of concept health representation in both language world pictures have been revealed.

Sound Gestures in Oral Communication

The paper deals with the study of sound gestures – involuntary subconscious exclamations.

Issues of Lexicographic Description of Word-formation Metaphors

The article deals with the issues of describing the lexical meaning of word-formation metaphors in thesauruses. Various means of defining derivatives with metaphoric motivation are regarded. The reasons of why it is impossible to describe the lexical meaning of some groups of derivatives by means of linking them to the generative word are established.
