The role of traditional media in promoting the international image of the People’s Republic of China

The article concentrates on the analysis of the strategy of the People’s Republic of China to promote its image abroad through traditional mass media. The publications of one of the largest periodical of the People’s Republic of China Nanfang Daily are analyzed.

The article discusses the law on cybersecurity in Vietnam and the new trends in multimedia communications, developing in social networks. Facebook is considered a tool for the development of multimedia communications in Vietnam, a trend in technology and information exchange. In Vietnam this social network is not only a communication platform, but also an important news channel.

Quality Periodicals in Value and Culture Identification: Typological Characteristics

The article considers a part of the author’s typology of printed media based on the typological division of modern culture as a value space in which media inevitably function. The author extracts correlated elements of ‘quality periodicals – traditional culture’, defines the typological features of quality publications in their relationship with the properties of traditional culture.

State Information Policy: Problems of Formation and Implementation

The process of increasing the role of information in modern society is developing against the background of the absence not only of the concept of state information policy (SIP), but also of the unified scientific approach to determining the essence of the concept itself. The article clarifies the interpretation of the term, justifies the author’s approach to the development of the concept of SIP.

On Journalistic Practice of Weimar Republic: Walter Benjamin’s Interview in the Newspaper «Die literarische Welt» (1927–1929)

The article examines underexplored aspects of the famous German philosopher Walter Benjamin’s journalism. Nine interviews in the newspaper «Die literarische Welt “ have been chosen to show how Benjamin’s experiments with the genre of interview contributed to the development of his dialectic materialism and, at the same time, updated the poetics of the dialogue of the early twentieth century.

Stereotyping of Russian Politicians in German Media Discourse

The article deals with the problem of language representation of stereotypes on the example of German mass media, featuring the election campaign in Russia in 2018. It has been confirmed that simplification and generalization play a significant role in forming the images of the Russian politicians in German mass media. Some characteristics of stereotypes about Russian political figures are revealed, linguistic means of their representation are described.

‘Chinese Casket’: A New Manipulation Instrument in Spanish Political Discourse in the Age of Cyberdemocracy

The article is a case-study of a ‘Chinese casket’, a new manipulative technique used in Spanish Internet resources in the era of cyberdemocracy. The author provides a classification of the ‘Chinese casket’ types. The article analyses manipulative potential of the technique both in political and newspaper discourses, illustrating the point with the use of conspicuous examples found in various Spanish resources.

Geo-branding in the Context of Mediatization Problems as a Means of the Development of Territories and Attraction of Tourists

This article discusses the problem of the formation of territorial brands in the Russian Federation. A wide analysis of different opinions of Russian and foreign researchers on the marketing of the urban environment and the formation of national brands has been carried out. Well-known urban brands have been considered as examples. Modern approaches to the formation of the Republic of Crimea brand have been researched.

Specific Character of Professional Journalists’ Work under Conditions of Convergence (Based on the Results of Social Research)

This article deals with the different levels of convergence in the sphere of mass media: technological, organizational, professional and communicative ones. The author focuses on the professional level of convergence. It has to do with forming new professional skills and competencies of journalists which help them to work efficiently in modern new mass media.

Some Aspects of the Discrediting Strategy in Soviet Media Discourse (Based on Newspaper Articles of the 1960–1979)

The article is devoted to one of the forms of implementation of the discrediting strategy in the Soviet political media discourse – the tactics of labeling. Examples from the Soviet press of the 1960–1970s (Pravda, Izvestia, Krasnaya zvezda and Vecherniaia Moskva) are analyzed. As a result of the study, semantic groups of labels are identified; their ways of interacting with other means of discrediting are analyzed
