N.V. Gogol’s Ambitions as a Literary Critic: Article «About Trends in the Press, 1834–1835»

The article reflects on the nature of Gogol’s journalistic and critical talent. The article «About trends in press, 1834-1835» is a manifesto of Gogol’s ideas. The author’s thought is shown to be closely connected with the problem of judgment, philosophically and culturally charged. Meanings of «judgment» in the article range from a reporter’s opinion to a concept of justice.
