To the Question of Chuvash Press Hybridization: Trends and Prospects

The article considers how the system of Chuvash printed mass media transforms in the digital era; the authors characterize the hybridization of the district, municipal and republican press. The authors identify the special character of the issues’ interaction with the new media and emphasize the necessity of optimizing the journalists’ work with the help of new technological opportunities.

Urban Media in the Information Field of the Provincial Monotown (On the Example of Alexandrovsk, Perm Krai)

The article discusses the information field of Aleksandrovsk, one of the most depressed cities in the Perm region. The emphasis is placed on the largest groups of local media in the social network VKontakte, viewed as new urban media. It is shown that the negative image of the city created by the federal, regional and city media is adjusted by the citizens themselves in a positive way.

Internet Meme as a Media Text

The article looks at the internet meme which is a popular phenomenon of internet communication. Being a media product which is aimed at a large number of people and which functions on the internet, the internet meme can be regarded as a media text. The characteristics of the internet meme are intertextuality, hybrid nature, interactivity, stereotypical nature.

‘Negation of the Negation’ in the Media-criticism of the Magazine Journalist of the Last Years of the Soviet ‘Thaw’

The article considers the editorial policy of The Journalist magazine directed by E. V. Yakovlev in 1967–1968 as a phenomena of a comprehensive media-critical edition of the Soviet ‘thaw’ period.
A multi-faceted analysis of the current state and development of mass-media in the USSR and abroad published on the pages of the magazine gave an opportunity to comprehend the social and economic development prospects of the country as a whole.

Peculiarities of the Development of Online Magazines for Children in the Context of Mass Communication

The article considers such typological features of electronic publications as their being interactive, hypertextual and multimedia in the context of online magazines for children. Different formats of publications for children are analyzed: full-featured original websites, electronic versions of paper publications and Internet applications.

Forms and Functions of Media Criticism in the Soviet Russia of the 1920s

The article specifies the foundations necessary for the media criticism to appear and develop. On the material of the national press Zhurnalist (Journalist), Izvestia (News), Pravda (Truth), Pechat i Revolutsiya (Press and Revolution) the formation of the journalist criticism of the 1920s is shown against the background of the Soviet journalism principles being established; its link with the literary criticism, features of a media criticism statement and its functions are indicated.

The Genre ‘Letter to the Publisher’ As a Form of Journalistic Self-reflection in 1800–1810s (Based on Vestnik Evropy ‘Herald of Europe’)

The article focuses on the origins of national journalistic criticism – the reflections of N. M. Karamzin, V. A. Zhukovsky and other editors of Vestnik Evropy (Herald of Europe) on the journal, on the mission of a socio-political publication. The features of the genre ‘letter to the publisher’ are considered as characteristic of the early XIXth century form of media-critical reflection.

Some Difficulties Associated with the Usage of Adverbs in Modern Press

The article discusses some difficulties that a journalist encounters when he uses qualitative adverbs in the texts of a modern newspaper. The author analyzes the cases of excessive or incorrect usage of adverbs.

Address Calendars and Reference Calendars of Tsaritsyn at the Turn of XIX–XXth Centuries

The article is dedicated to a specialized publication of Tsaritsyn, Saratov county, of the turn of the XIX–XXth century: the address calendars and reference calendars. Their main chapters and structure have been outlined as well as the circle of historic data which is contained in the publications under research.

A. K. Sheller-Mikhailov in the Journal Zhenskiy Vestnik (Women’s Bulletin)

The 1860s turned out to be crucial in forming both Sheller-Mikhailov’s creative identity and his world outlook, his spiritual, moral and aesthetic views, which he had been true to throughout his life journey. Not lengthy in time, but prolific and active participation in Zhenskiy Vestnik holds a specific place in the journal activity of the writer, who rightfully became one of the key and unifying figures in the literary process of the second half of the XIXth century.
