Development and Application of Language Law and Language Rights in Switzerland

The article discusses the problems of language law and language rights in multinational and multilingual Swiss society. Special attention is drawn to the practice of reconciling the disputes arising from conflicting interests of different social groups.

Phraseological Units with National Cultural Semantics in Modern German

The article deals with linguistic and extra-linguistic factors influencing the development and functioning of phrase units with national-cultural component in their semantics. The questionnaire offered to native German speakers revealed the reasons for dropping out of certain units of this group from the current active usage. The substitutes (variants and synonyms) and modifications most widely used in current German are next characterized as the best means of adapting phrase units to the current extra-linguistic situation without loss in meaning.

Auxiliary Communicative Units in Russian and the US Presidential Addresses

On the materials of the genre of Presidential Address to Federal Congress the article offers a comparison in functioning of auxiliary communicative units in Russian and American political discourse, and reveals the universal and specific characteristics of their usage in political leaders’ speech

The World-picture in the «Mobile» Jargon (on the material of metaphors)

“Mobile” jargon being lively and heterogeneous in structure presents a specific level of the Russian language. The development of this language phenomenon and its spread among the Russian language speakers are determined by the penetration of mobile technologies into the life of modern society. The majority of the items of this idiom are formed by means of metaphoric transfer. The lexemes used by “mobile” jargon users as the source for metaphors are extremely various.

DERIVATIVE OPPORTUNITIES OF THE WORD-FORMING METAPHOR

The essence of the concept "word-forming metaphor" is disclosed in the article, the semantic potential of derivatives with metaphorical motivation is explored, the causes of derivational activity or inactivity of word-forming metaphors are revealed.

THEORETICAL ISSUES OF STUDYING COMPLEX VOICE EVENTS ON THE TEXT MATERIAL: Cognitive Aspect

Complex speech events are a special form of communicative interaction, have a complex structure and are fixed in the language in the form of names. Interpretation of texts of memoirs and stories about life, as well as media texts about events, should take into account the cognitive aspects of the presentation of the event in the text - the features of the reference and text events, as well as the existence of a prototypical event.

HOW TO UNDERSTAND AUSTRALIAN? TO THE PROBLEM OF THE AUSTRALIAN VARIANT OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

The article discusses some extra- and intralinguistic conditions for the formation of the Australian version of the English language, which is independent and takes its own place in the system of other variants of the English language, differing both from the British English and American versions. It is also noted that in the works of domestic linguists this option is given insufficient attention.

The Present and the Future of the Russian and French Languages

The author describes the main problems which the French and Russian languages face in the modern world. The high degree of state support of the language in the French-speaking countries is contrasted to the inadequate support of Russian by the state under the conditions of globalization.

Associative Background Space in Newspaper Texts

The materials from the current newspapers are used to analyze the formation of spaces based on the phenomenon of secondary linguosemiosis. The mechanisms of formation of spaces of associative background of events are considered, leading to the conclusion that the manifestations of a given space contribute to perception of the main information of the text, and what is most important for the press discourse – they can mask by recurring to images the partisan opinions, they influence the reader’s perception of the world.
