Precedent Phenomena as Culture Level Indicators in Student Communication

The article considers some peculiarities of precedent phenomena functioning in student speech. The author elicits the connection between the sources of the precedent phenomena employed and the student community culture level.

The article is dedicated to the peculiarities of polysemous nouns of the Russian language. A detailed classification of the metaphoric and metonymic models of polysemous substantive regionalisms is presented.

The article is devoted to the study of French IT English loan words, their adaptation and different ways of integration in the French language. The article contains the data of the research on the frequency of IT English loan words usage that is the main way of IT terminology enrichment in the development of the modern French.

On Some Peculiarities of Word Formation in the English Military Slang (Based on Dictionaries)

The article studies some word formation peculiarities of military slang, its functioning in the speech of the military, and provides derivational classification of English military slang words.

Accentual Structure of English Utterances Containing Synonyms and Hyponyms (Language Contact and Language Interference Study)

The article discusses the phonetic research of phrasal accent position in the English utterances containing synonyms and hyponyms in the English speech of the Mexican and Russian learners of English. The description of erratic realizations in non-native English speech and the results of perception experiment with native American subjects’ participation are presented.

A Composite Semantic Image Formation in a Multicultural Literary Text (Based on the Materials of Jumpa Lahiri’s story «Mrs. Sen’s»)

On a specific example the article shows that images are a special level of a multicultural literary text; it also specifies the methods of how the composite semantic image of a literary text is formed. Special emphasis is put on forming the composite semantic image definition and on considering the text mechanisms modeling the semantic space of the main composite image.

Conceptualization in the Poetic Language

The article deals with the comparison of the conceptualization processes in the ordinary and artistic minds. The author notes the results of conceptualization – artistic concepts and ordinary mind concepts, as well as those distinctions between them which are of controversial nature.

Cognitive Models of Some Tonality Types of English and French Media Discourse (Retracted 11/04/2022)

The article focuses on the category of tonality that is regarded as the mechanism for representation of the interpreting function of the language. Ironic and complimentary types of tonality are proved to be the most frequently represented in English and French media discourse. These types of tonality are realized by a range of cognitive mechanisms determining the capacity of some cognitive models.

Metaphorical Interpretation of a Woman’s Age in the Russian and German Languages (on the Material of Thesauruses)

This article deals with the substantive metaphor describing a woman in the Russian and German languages. The analysis of metaphorical nominations is aimed at identifying the description of the universal, cultural and national characteristics attributed to a ‘female person’ depending on her age and social status.

Metaphor in the Speech of Spanish Politicians (on the Material of the Spanish Newspaper and Journalistic Discourse)

This article discusses the functioning of metaphors in the Spanish newspaper and journalistic discourse. Based on media publications – EL MUNDO and EL PAÍS – concerning some of the most memorable and important recent events in the international life an analysis of the use of metaphors by Spanish politicians has been carried out. It is concluded that the Spanish political discourse is characterized by emotionality and imagery, which not only determine the use of rhetorical language tools, but also highlight unique features of the Spanish linguistic culture.
