The Taxonomy of Political Discourse in Contemporary World in the Context of the Anthropocentric Paradigm

The article discusses political discourse as a communicative space of modern politics in the context of the anthropocentric paradigm. The following components of the political discourse have been outlined: the character of the subject and that of the addressee, genres of oral and written speech, the opposition of monologue and dialogue, the functions, the amount of information among the genres, the aim of speech.

Discourse as a Cognitive Mechanism

The article proposes a generalization of theoretical discourse studies as a product or result of social relations, as well as a mechanism or instrument of their construction and regulation. The author structures the ideas of discourse, most thoroughly developed in the national philological science, and focuses on the controversial issues related to the research of various types and forms of discourse.

Metaphorization of Sport Terminology in the Modern Russian Language

The article considers the formation and functioning of figurative meanings in the 21st century on the basis of modern Russian sports terminology. The main sources of metaphorization, semantics of transfers and regular models of metaphorical transformation are analyzed in linguistic and cognitive aspects. The stability and consistency of the formation and functioning of the studied metaphors are noted.

Euphemisms as a Means of Concealing the Negative Facts of Reality in Speeches by US Secretary of State M. Pompeo

The article researches the peculiarities of the use of euphemisms in the speeches by US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo which deal with the civil war in Yemen in 2015–2018, Saudi Arabia’s military participation in this war and the investigation of the murder of journalist J. Hashoggi in October of 2018.

Peculiarities of a Multicultural Literary Text as a Phenomenon of Modern Reality

The article deals with linguostylistic peculiarities of a multicultural literary text. It is attempted to show that the meanings representing a precedent phenomenon are actualized in the notional and figurative forms in the reader’s mind, thus enriching the imagery of the virtual reality of the text. The emphasis is made on the aspects of the literary image formation and its role in conveying the ethnic flair in the context of intercultural interaction.

Professionally Oriented Teaching of Russian as a Foreign Language to Chinese Students and Musicians

This article deals with the specifics of teaching Russian as a foreign language to Chinese school children and students studying in higher and secondary schools of art and culture. The authors analyze available specialized textbooks, offer up-to-date techniques and teaching methods that take into account the national mentality and professional specialization of students.

Methods of Learning Foreign Language Lexis (A Case Study of Arabic Borrowings)

The article presents a technique that promotes multidimensional research of borrowings. It includes lexicographical, etymological, and semantic analysis of words; identification of their syntagmatic and paradigmatic relations, features of adaptation in the host language and use in its different functional varieties, frequency of use; the role of borrowings in the lexical system of the Russian language. The research is based on the study of the lexis of Arabic origin.

The Functioning of Phraseological Units in the Context of the Russian-language Press

The article analyzes the functioning of phraseological units in the texts of the Russian-language press and considers the actualizing components of the linguistic context that support the meaning of phraseological units.

Discourse Marker you know and Functional Approach to Its Translation into Russian in Film Subtitling and Dubbing

The article is concerned with the textual and interpersonal functions of discourse marker you know in movie dialogues and the means of its functional translation in subtitles and dubbing. The subtitled and dubbed versions are compared in terms of the proportion of marker omission as well as the proportion of functional losses.

Lexical and Semantic Group of Color Terms in Modern Germanic Languages

The article reviews the semantic field of color terms in Germanic languages: its structure, characteristic features of the basic part and periphery formation, development trends. Based on lexical and semantic groups of color term adjectives of the English and German languages, the authors determine general and specific features in word formation and semantic processes in the semantic field under research.
