Lyrical Triptych «Petropolis» by O. E. Mandelstam: Textual Criticism and Poetics

The article focuses on one of the little-researched author’s edition of a cycle of poems «Petropolis» and shows that in the form of a triptych it has an inherent artistic value. The analysis demonstrates the birth process of the individual poetic myth and the synthesis of various levels of meaning.

Risk at War Front and in the Rear Areas. Drama by A. F. Pisemsky «Old-timer and New Recruit» (1854) in Its Contemporary Literary and Journalistic Context and in the Creative Biography of the Author

The article contains a first-held comprehensive analysis of one of the less researched early dramas by A. F. Pisemsky «Old-timer and New Recruit» in the context of the development of the playwright’s aesthetics, juxtaposing it to its contemporary journal belles-lettres of the start of the Crimean campaign. Arguments are presented in favour of Pisemsky’s drama being a phenomenon that goes beyond the limits of drama belles-lettres by its aesthetic merits.

The Reflection of the Provinces Problems in the Russian Periodicals and Belles-lettres of the XIXth Century

The article studies the peculiarities of how the provincial problems were reflected in the Russian journalism and belles-lettres in the XIXth century; the main questions within the scope of the present issue are also considered.

CHEKHOVSKY "PLATONOV" ("PIECE WITHOUT NAME") IN THE INTERPRETATION OF M. FREIN

The article is devoted to the study of the play of the modern English playwright M. Frein "Wild Honey", which in turn is a translation-interpretation of Chekhov's "Platonov". The article analyzes approaches, ways Frein uses in working with Chekhov's text, and also tries to understand how organically the classical Russian-language text exists in the space of the theatrical culture of England.

The material of the novel of the modern German writer Hertha Muller, not translated into Russian, examines the relationship between the principles of representation of traumatized consciousness and the principles of representation of urban space in a postmodern novel, reveals their inner relationship.

REVOLUTIONARY RUSSIA IN THE EARLY ROSES OF YOSEPH ROTA

In the article images of revolutionary Russia in the early novels of the German-speaking writer Joseph Roth (1894-1939) "Flight without end" (1927) and "The Mute Prophet" (1929) are analyzed. The Russian revolution is depicted in these texts as a monstrous enterprise, carried out by random people from personal motives. It does not lead to the creation of a state and a man of a new type and therefore it seems senseless bloodshed.

Victor Pelevin and ‘Moscow Conceptualism’

The article analyzes the early works of V. Pelevin from the collection Relics. early and unpublished. The author compares the early and late works of the writer and outlines the vector of his creative evolution, finds common ground between different texts of the writer. The author of the article refers to the practices of ‘Moscow conceptualism’ and outlines the connection between this tactics and Pelevin.

Glumov’s Double in the Comedy by A. N. Ostrovsky Enough Stupidity in Every Wise Man

The article considers the image of Mashenka Turusina from the play by A. N. Ostrovsky Enough Stupidity in Every Wise Man. Analyzing textual behavior of the character, the author proves that the young foster daughter is not only ‘a home martyr’ but also a skillful manipulator who adjusts the environment to her own liking. This game makes her similar to the main character of the comedy – Glumov: he tries to make his way up by flattery and deception.

The Motive of Fate in the Late Prose by Ch. T. Aitmatov

The article consistently traces the actualization of the fate motive in four novels by Ch. T. Aitmatov; his semantic key points are analyzed in each work and the evolution of this text element is revealed.

Mandelshtam’s Project «Seven poems» (1930–1931): Cycle or Selection?

The article examines Mandelstam’s unrealized project «Seven Poems» (1930 – 1931). A hypothesis of a cyclic nature of this group of poems, of their imagery and thematic integrity and correlation with other Mandelstam’s cycles is formulated.
