Uncollected Cycle by O. Mandelstam to the Memory of Andrey Bely (Problems of Composition and Genre)

The article focuses on the group of Mandelstam’s poems dedicated to Andrey Bely and shows that this group constitutes an uncollected cycle associated with the archaic attributes of the requiem genre. The analysis of the cycle composition leads to the assumption that variability becomes one of the cyclization factors here.

Unidentified Varravin. To the Poetics of A. V. Sukhovo-Kobylin’s Characters

The article regards the character of General Varravin – the main and only character moving the scheme forward in the drama «The Case» by A. V. Sukhovo-Kobylin. The ambiguity and inconsistency of this character are specifically highlighted.

The Type of Woman Artist as Portrayed by D. Rubina and A. Gavalda

The aims of this work are to analyze the pictures of the heroines in the novels by D. Rubina («On the Sunny Side of the Street») and A. Gavalda («Just Together»); to discover how Vera and Kamilla’s character traits are represented in the pictures. The task is to interpret the pictures from the perspective of psychology, to identify the features of the type of woman artist in modern literature.

Boris Borisovich Glinsky about Alexandr Nikolayevich Pypin

A lot of research addresses A. N. Pypin’s life and oeuvre but the aspect of his biography is not given sufficient attention to. The sketch by B. B. Glinsky is one of such papers that has not yet excited any interest. Addressing the forgotten publication in the journal Istorichesky Vestnik (History Journal) allows not only to reconsider some facts and episodes of Pypin’s activity from a new perspective, but also to identify the peculiarities of his creative style, and highlight intrinsic genre criteria of a critical and biographical article.

The Motive of Extemporaneous Rumor in the Chronotope of the Cycle by N. V. Gogol «Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka»

The article considers the motive of rumor in its spatial and time expression based on the cycle of «Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka» by N. V. Gogol. The stylistic functions of the rumor motive in the novels’ plots and the internal link with the folk tradition are researched.

The article regards different occurrences of Germans and Germany in Gogol’s poem Dead Souls and, consequently, the author’s own perception of German mentality during the time when he was working on the poem.

M. V. Avdeev’s Article on the «Hidden Pitfal» and A. F. Pisemskiy’s Views on the «Woman Question»

In the article for the first time Pisemskiy’s attitude to the issue of feminine emancipation is viewed in close connection with his artistic images and critical statements; the issue was considered one of the key themes of his works by his contemporaries.

The Problem of Fortune and Fate as the Foundation of the Tragic in M. A. Bulgakov’s Works

The author of the article singles out the main problem of Bulgakov’s tragedy which is a distinctive feature of his plays as well as of epic compositions and of his personal world-view. The author claims that the main profound conflict in Bulgakov’s works turns to be the collision of fortune and fate generally presented in the world literature from Ancient Greeks to our days. The researcher emphasizes some special traits of Bulgakov’s stories of 1930s such as deceptiveness of fortune, prediction of the denouement in action.
