K. Vaginov’s Petersburg Text

The article studies the problem of Petersburg text of the Russian literature in the literary works by Konstantin Vaginov, its correspondence to the classical Petersburg text of A. Pushkin, F. Dostoevsky, N. Gogol.

Mythologization of the Soviet Intelligentsia in the Short Stories by Tatyana Tolstaya

The article reveals the problem of creating the image of the author in the stories by T. Tolstaya by means of comparing it to the images of the intellectuals of the Stagnation Era, the main characters of the book of stories «Okkervil River». With the help of such techniques as fabulousness, citation and internal spiritual belonging to the intelligentsia author creates a mythology of the Soviet intelligentsia. The main feature of this mythology is decadent humility and desacralization.

Russia in the Life and Works of Lou Andreas-Salomé

The article draws together biographical and spiritual roots of the theme of Russia in the creative work of a Russian-born German writer Lou Andreas-Salomé, a friend of Nietzsche, Rilke and Freud. Her role of a mediator between the Russian and German cultures is established; her perception of the Russian traditional peasant culture is revealed; the main fictional texts by Lou Andreas-Salomé for studying the image of Russia are singled out.

Intertextual Correlations of the Novel «The Suitcase» by S. Dovlatov with the Works of the Russian Classical Literature XIX–XXth Centuries

The author of this article examines intertextual correlations of the novel by S. Dovlatov “The Suitcase” with works by A. Blok, I. Brodski, N.V. Gogol, A.P. Chekhov, A. Grin, and carries out the auto-intertextual analysis, which allows to consider the correlations between Dovlatov’s works within the framework of the super-textual unity.

POLE IS BROKEN AND "CONTEMPORARY PARNAS"

The article is devoted to the student period of the work of the French poet Paul Verlaine, who joined the 1860s. to the group "Modern Parnassus". The author analyzes both early "Parnassian" poems written under the influence of the masters of the older generation - Gauthier, Banville, Lecomte de Lille, Menard, Baudelaire - and the memories of a mature artist; the distinctive features of the "Parnassian" technique of verse are determined.

THEMES OF MOTHERHOOD AND CHILDHOOD IN THE REPUBLIC OF LO ANDREAS-SALOME (GENDER APPROACH)

On the material of the novel "Rodinka" (1903) by the German writer Lou Andreas-Salome, the author's representation of the Russian gender identity is examined, the correlation in her of stereotypes of traditional Orthodox culture and a new vision of gender roles typical for the culture of the turn of the XIX-XX centuries that came to Russia from the West.

POLE IS BACK: FROM ROMANTICISM TO IMPRESSIONISM

The article is devoted to one of the most outstanding poets of France in the second half of the 19th century. Paul Verlaine, who began his career in the vein of romanticism and completed it with the discovery of a new literary and aesthetic direction. The authors trace the main stages of this evolution, related to the creation of Verlaine's central poetry collections (from "Saturnic verses" to "Songs without Words"). Specific features of impressionism as a new style in literature are characterized.

А. P. Skaftymov and Yu. G. Oksman: the Antinomy of Characters

The article offers the contrastive comparison of two figures of humanitarian culture unique in their scientific methods and especially in their personalities and characters. The author relies on the correspondence materials of the two scientists and on a wide circle of sources published in recent years.

Nostalgia Theme and Reflection on the Role of the ‘Little Man’ in the Bolshevist Russia in the Stories of Z. Gippius in the Émigré Period

The article represents an attempt of a literary, critical, and philosophical evaluation of the characteristic features of the short fiction written by Z. Gippius in emigration. Special attention is given to the theme of nostalgia and to the role of the ‘little man’ in the Bolshevist Russia.

A Word about the Author

The experience of a dictionary entry ‘Author’ offered here provides essential help in mastering the course of “Introduction into Literary Studies” and deals with the meanings of one of the key notions of philology. Some general ideas are presented: of the author as a biographic individual, of the author as the creator of a literary text, of the implicit author, and of the two approaches outlined in the XX century to the issue of the reader and author relationship.
