Derzhavin’s Reminiscences in the Poetic and Memoir Texts of A. Gorodnitsky

The article deals with the image of G.R. Derzhavin and the reminiscences from his works being researched in the songs, poems and books of recollections by the singer poet of the second half of the XXth century A. Gorodnitsky: the means and functions of their application, their relation to the pressing issues of today and to the images of the contemporary authors.

THE ROLE OF MEMORY IN THE FORMATION OF NATIONAL IDENTITY IN THE NOVEL J. BARNSA "ENGLAND, ENGLAND"

The article deals with the most important problems of the novel of the famous English postmodernist J. Barnes - the question of the authenticity of the foundations of English and the unreliability of personal memory. It also traces how the narrative character of the memory reveals the construction of the national identity.

LINEAR LOCATION OF VOLUNTARE AS A CYCLE-FORMING PRINCIPLE IN THE BOOK "NEW PERFORMANCES" R.M. RILKE

The article is devoted to the actual problem of modern rilke-reference - compositional principles for constructing an author's text. One of the main factors of the integrity of the poetic collection "New Poems" is singled out - a microcycle that is the basic unit of the compositional-style unity of the poems located in the book one after another. Microcycle unites poems into a larger unity - through cycles of all creativity.

Nostalgia Theme and Reflection on the Role of the ‘Little Man’ in the Bolshevist Russia in the Stories of Z. Gippius in the Émigré Period

The article represents an attempt of a literary, critical, and philosophical evaluation of the characteristic features of the short fiction written by Z. Gippius in emigration. Special attention is given to the theme of nostalgia and to the role of the ‘little man’ in the Bolshevist Russia.

A Word about the Author

The experience of a dictionary entry ‘Author’ offered here provides essential help in mastering the course of “Introduction into Literary Studies” and deals with the meanings of one of the key notions of philology. Some general ideas are presented: of the author as a biographic individual, of the author as the creator of a literary text, of the implicit author, and of the two approaches outlined in the XX century to the issue of the reader and author relationship.

The Motive of Tropical Colony in Evelyn Waugh’s Work

The motive of tropical colony is traced in Waugh’s writings from the early travel books through «A Handful of Dust» to «The Loved One». The motive’s structural and symbolic functioning is shown to be the integral part of Waugh’s handling of the opposition between barbarism and civilization.

Hearsay Motive In N. V. Gogol’s «Mirgorod»: Between the Usual and the Oustanding

Stylistic function of the motives of hearsay and fame are studied in the plots of «Old-World Landowners», «Viy», and «The Tale of How Ivan Ivanovich Quarreled with Ivan Nikiforovich» by N. V. Gogol. Their role in the plot and the chronotopos of the works is considered, as well as their meaning in the space of the stories, their linkages with the motives of emergency and disclosed mystery are regarded.

Scientific Biography of a Writer as a Type of Literary Research (The first article)

This paper examines the history of the study of the biographical genre in literature; its basic theoretical and methodological principles are formulated; the corresponding terminology is clarified.

Solzhenitsyn’s «Awful» Words

The article dwells on Solzhenitsyn’s lexical preferences, on what words he considered «unbearable» and why. In Solzhenitsyn’s attitude to the word aesthetic aspects (meaning, sound, color, smell) and ethic ones (belonging to the rogue or slaughterer world, being Russian, a possibility of coming from Christ’s lips) can be singled out.

On Gogol’s Heroes’ Swearing Mentioning the Devil

This article discusses the specifics of expressive sayings associated with mentioning the devil; the dynamics of changes these forms are undergoing is revealed. It is concluded that mentioning evil spirits is one of the most important elements of Gogol’s poetics, which helps to convey to the reader the bitter truth.
