Provincial Space in Chekhov and Gorky`s Drama («Three Sisters» and «The Barbarians»)

In this article we are considering the poetics of the spatial image – the provincial town – in the plays by Gorky and Chekhov. The context of the XIX century classical drama enables to determine the new content of the province image, to reveal common features of the «new drama» poetics and author`s individual peculiarities as well, and to confront the world outlook positions of its two creators – Chekhov and Gorky reflected in the failing – to – coincide appraisals of the perspectives in the development of the Russian provincial life in the early XX century.

Conflict Peculiarity in Oscar Wilde’s Drama Salomé

The article analyzes external and internal conflicts of Oscar Wilde’s drama Salom. The external conflict reveals Wilde’s idea of the destructive role of human infatuation. The internal conflict presents Wilde’s views connected with his ‘philosophy of the unreal’.

The article reviews the estimates of A.P. Chekhov "In the Ravine" writers of the twentieth century. (L. Tolstoy, M. Gorky, E. Zamyatin, V. Nabokov, I. Bunin, B. Zaitsev, K. Chukovsky, A. Solzhenitsyn). Writers are primarily interested in the artistic nature of the story, pay attention to the close and important features of poetics. As a result, the conclusion is drawn about the versatility of the story of A.P. Chekhov, as 

 

EXISTENT GENERAL GENUS IN THE MODERN SPANISH LANGUAGE. TO THE PROBLEM OF LINGUISTIC DISCRIMINATION

The article analyzes the use of nouns of the general kind in modern Spanish: two main trends of their transformation are considered in the framework of the process of linguistic feminization, which has become more acute in the last decade, the causes of such changes are being studied. The second part of the work describes the main events of the Hispanic world, which have influenced the eradication of linguistic discrimination on the basis of gender in the modern Spanish language of official authorities, mass media, educational institutions.

 

‘Language of Flowers/Colors’ in the Novel by F. Sologub «Bad Dreams»: To the Issue of ‘Faithfulness to Things’ in the Symbolist Poetics

The subject of research in the article is the function of color in the description of objects’ details and the plants – counterparts of characters – in Sologub’s novel «Bad Dreams». The author presumes that a peculiar ‘language of flowers/colors’ is created in the novel: flowers and colors are the signatures of the characters’ spiritual path indicating its mysterious and eternal meaning.

The Denouement in N. V. Gogol’s «The Inspector General» as a Means of Disputing «Theatrical Departure»

The article considers texts accompanying the comedy «The Inspector General». The researcher traces the changes of the author’s assessment of his own texts, the author’s doubts and self-reflection.

Fedor Sologub and «Shipovnik» (Rose-Tree) (his Relationships with the Editorial Board)

In the article the relationships between the Shipovnik Almanac publishing house owners and editors (S. Yu. Kopelman, Z. I. Grzhebin, B. Zaytsev, L. Andreev) and the writer F. Sologub are considered. The history of the publication of the novel «Nav’s Charms» in the Almanac Shipovnik is traced taking into account literary reviews to its publication.

‘Knots’ of History as Depicted by M. Aldanov and A. Solzhenitsyn

In the article the author carries out a comparative analysis of historic and philosophical concepts of M. Aldanov and A. Solzhenitsyn based on the novel «The Sources» and the narration within a measured time period «Red Wheel» («August 1914»). The issue of the role of an occasion in history and in the fate of one person is considered, as well as the comprehension of the ‘sources’ and consequences of the Russian revolution and the shift of the epic genre boundaries in the ХХ century literature.
