The article gives ал interpretation of the cultural phenomenon of television criticism, proves its importance for scientific and educaticnal aspects of journalism studies and defines the perspective ways of research. While being а manifestation of television culture, television criticism at the same time continues the traditions of Russian literary reflection, so it is suggested that the genesis аnd modern functioning of television criticism be evaluated in the context of settled literary conceptions of the 20th century.
