Scientific ideas of Olga B. Sirotinina and Saratov linguistic school of researching real communication units. On the occasion of the centenary of birth of the scientist and teacher

The article is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the outstanding Russian linguist, professor of Saratov State University Olga B. Sirotinina (born in 1923). The article presents and analyzes a number of scientific ideas of the scholar: the necessity to work out new approaches to syntactic units; the interaction of primary (factual) and secondary (organizational) levels of communication; attention of the author to the addressee as a leading principle of linguistic ecology; semantic diffusion as a dynamic process in the Russian discourse.

Typology of Nominative Phraseologically Bound Sentences in the Russian Language

Upon analyzing Russian nominative phraseologically bound sentences from various aspects, their linguistic essence has been destribed; their structural and grammatical types have been defined; their semantic structures have been characterized. All the above have given an opportunity to approach the task of creating a general typology of these units.

Syncretism of Discursive Words

In the article, dedicated to the research of the syncretism of discursive words (discursives) of the Russian scientific speech, alongside the two main types of discursive words – regulators and organizers – syncretic types, combining different types of information – discursive and regulatory, factual, pragmatic and grammatical, discursive and regulatory – are singled out.

Linguistic Terms of Latin Origin: Etymology or Derivation?

The article highlights differences between root morphemes and radixoids of Latin origin in the structure of linguistic terms and specific units of term formation – term elements.

The Problems of Word Family of International Terms (on the Material of the Linguistic Terminology of Ancient Greek Origin in the Russian Language)

The author carries out a word family classification of linguistic terms of the Greek origin. The correlation of the lexis of natural and artificial origins in the term pool is described, as well as the place of each of them in the structure of the word family. The classification of the root word families on the basis of the structural peculiarities is suggested.

Functioning of Arabisms in the Russian Speech (based on the Russian National Corpus texts)

The article focuses on the lexical units borrowed from the Arabian language. The Arabisms of the theme group of ‘Buildings, structures, construction materials’ are analyzed. The dictionary definitions of these words from the Arabian dictionary Al Muajam Al Waseet (2004) are compared to the definitions represented in the Arabian-Russian and Russian-Arabian dictionaries, in the dictionaries of foreign words of different authors.

Vocabulary of Arabic Origin Meaning ‘Clothing, Headdresses’ and Its Functions in Spoken Russian

The article deals with the lexis of Arabic origin and its functioning in the Russian language. The ideographic approach to the research has been used: the author focuses on the lexical and thematic group ‘Clothing and household goods’, subgroup ‘Clothing, headdresses’. The following words have been researched: burnus, jelloba, jellabiia, ihram, paranja, savan (shroud), safari, sultan, khalat (dressing gown).

The Impact of the Language System Deviation and Communicative Incompetence of Journalists on Mass Media Speech and the System of Language

The article considers the stages of the Russian language development from the free deviations in the past to the influence on the changes in the system of the mass media language and the Internet in the XXI st century. It is noted that the free deviations of the system in the conditions of living with the Internet are becoming unfeasible, and an ever growing reliance on the users’ competence degree can be observed.

Peculiarities of Substantive Polysemy of the Russian Language Regionalisms

The article is dedicated to the peculiarities of polysemous nouns of the Russian language. A detailed classification of the metaphoric and metonymic models of polysemous substantive regionalisms is presented.
