The process of mediatization of culture is actively taking place in modern society. Today, the media have a significant impact on the civic position, views and level of speech culture and communicative behavior of the population. The profession of a journalist is one of the most important and responsible professions. That is why a journalist has to convey a good speech: correct, appropriate, logical, expressive. Unfortunately, the speech of modern media workers is far from the standard. It is replete with speech, grammatical and stylistic errors and inaccuracies.

In the article the author explains the necessity to work out a systematic approach to the description of communicative units of real life communication. The article presents an attempt to solve the problem of classifying the units belonging to the secondary communication level. Based on the previously suggested principles and methods of identifying communicative discourse units, the author provides definitions of primary and secondary (supportive) units.

The article is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the outstanding Russian linguist, professor of Saratov State University Olga B. Sirotinina (born in 1923). The article presents and analyzes a number of scientific ideas of the scholar: the necessity to work out new approaches to syntactic units; the interaction of primary (factual) and secondary (organizational) levels of communication; attention of the author to the addressee as a leading principle of linguistic ecology; semantic diffusion as a dynamic process in the Russian discourse.
