Gastronomic accounts of the Ancient Rome in the poem Dinner by V. S. Filimonov (1837)

The article considers Dinner by V. S. Filimonov (1837) as a literary and gastronomic poem. The dishes mentioned by the poet are not only of practical use, they are incorporated into the system of literary relationships, and become a source of intertextual connections and allusions. V. S. Filimonov’s characters taste not only and not so much the dishes and drinks served; they rather taste life itself: over dinner they satisfy their hunger of long-expected meetings with true friends, have polemic conversations, relish literary novelties.

Intertextual elements as a means of creating a comic effect (based on the 17th century Russian satires)

This study aims to determine the role of intertextual elements in creating a comic effect in the 17th century Russian satires. Two novels representing the humorous literature of the 17th century Russia serve as the material of the research: The Tale of Drunkard and The Tale of the Peasant’s Son. Medieval culture is based on Christianity with the biblical text at its core.

Peculiarities of Z. Thagazitov’s Colors in the Context of Color Preferences in Kabardian Poetry

The article describes an attempt to study the peculiarities of color in the work of the Kabardian poet Zuber Thagazitov for the first time. The author reveals the national specific features of color symbolism and the interdependence of historic and artistic reflection of the national reality in the context of the «greater time».

The article is dedicated to the examination of the peculiarities of modality realization in utterances with adverbial complicators. The author considers different types of modality, analyzes the instances of polymodality.

Specific Character of the Narrative Modality of Pushkin’s Prose Fragments

The article deals with the features of the narrative modality category in Pushkin’s prose fragments. It is concluded that the internal focalization and a homodiegetic narrator dominate in the fragments, the latter explicitly reveals himself through self-presentation. External focalization is actualized in the narrator with the help of the third-person narration. The narrator’s specific features comprise his omniscience of the hero’s steps and actions, and his ignorance of the hero’s inner world, emotions and feelings.

Idioms as a means of creating the image of China in the English language media discourse

The article deals with the application of phraseological units in describing China in the English language media discourse. The evaluation in idioms is determined by means of discourse analysis which takes into account extra-linguistic, linguistic and cognitive factors. Subjective modalities specify the evaluative potential of idioms and show the mechanism of manipulating public opinion in the media discourse.
