Lyrical Triptych «Petropolis» by O. E. Mandelstam: Textual Criticism and Poetics

The article focuses on one of the little-researched author’s edition of a cycle of poems «Petropolis» and shows that in the form of a triptych it has an inherent artistic value. The analysis demonstrates the birth process of the individual poetic myth and the synthesis of various levels of meaning.

«Aviation» Cycle by O. Mandelstam: to the Problem of Context and Interpretation

The article regards O. Mandelstam’s poems published as a cycle only in the magazines of 1920s. The analysis of the cycle composition helps to supplement the picture of the co-existence of utopian and apocalyptic moments in the creative consciousness of Mandelstam in the beginning of 1920s.

Derzhavin before Derzhavin by Viktor Sosnora: the Potential the Genre and Composition Meaning

The article is dedicated to the poetics of a historic work by V. Sosnora Derzhavin before Derzhavin. The main focus is on the potential of the genre foundation (a cycle of essays) and composition meaning. Those are viewed as ways of creating a subjective author’s image of a historic figure – a poet and a statesman.

Mandelshtam’s Project «Seven poems» (1930–1931): Cycle or Selection?

The article examines Mandelstam’s unrealized project «Seven Poems» (1930 – 1931). A hypothesis of a cyclic nature of this group of poems, of their imagery and thematic integrity and correlation with other Mandelstam’s cycles is formulated.

The «First Moscow Notebook» and the Issue of the Great Form in Mandelstam’s Poetry of the 1930s

The article deals with the issues of cyclization in Mandelstam’s poetry of the beginning of the 1930s, based on the materials of the «First Moscow notebook». The object of study is the hierarchy of different types of lyrical entities and some tendencies in the formation of the book of poems in the late works of Mandelstam.

Poems of Goldfinch and Their Place in Mandelstam’s Second Voronezh Notebook. Article one

The article is devoted to Mandelstam’s unfinished cycle of goldfinch and its diverse connections to poems of the Second Voronezh Notebook. The author of the article reveals some hidden meanings of the goldfinch poems and connections within the central section of Voronezh Notebooks by analyzing the draft manuscript and the final version.

Self-quotе and Self-reminiscence in Gaston Leroux’s Novels

The article considers self-referential items in the oeuvre of Gaston Leroux – the master of a popular novel – particularly on the example of the Rouletabille cycle. The author pays closer attention to the novel Rouletabille and the Tsar in which Leroux inserted the data from his earlier articles and sketches about Russia.

Poems of Goldfinch and Their Place in Mandelstam’s Second Voronezh Notebook. Article two

The article is the continuation of the first one and is devoted to the place of uncollected ‘goldfinch’ cycle in the structure of Second Voronezh Notebook. The article shows the hierarchy of cycles, their various types and forms of cyclic relationships. Inner story lines, imagery and motive complexes of the Second Voronezh notebook and other manifestations of its integrity are revealed.

Spiritual Conflict Generators in the ‘Romantic’ Cycle Autumn by B. Pasternak

The article studies the poetic cycle Autumn by B. Pasternak, which concludes his book of poems Themes and Variations (1916–1922). The imagery system of the cycle and its plot, reflecting the relationships between the lyrical hero and his beloved, are analyzed. The role of spiritual conflict generators as important cycle-formative elements is noted. The intertextual connections with the Bible and W. Shakespeare’s play Hamlet are highlighted.

The Problem of Distinguishing Versions and Cyclic Structures in O. Mandelstam’s Lyrics

The article is devoted to one of the difficult problems in the study of Mandelstam’s lyrics, namely the problem of distinguishing different versions and cyclic structures based on repetition and variations of poetic fragments. The author offers the criteria of distinction, analyzes several controversial cases, shows the importance of presenting different versions of text as a dynamic unity.
