The primary aim of this research is to investigate the cognitive model which represents the concept of forced marriage as actualized in the novel, The Bride, by Bapsi Sidhwa. In the novel, the protagonist, Qasim, was forced to marry, when he was only ten-years-old; when he grows up he leaves his mountainous life for Lahore and adopts a girl, Zaitoon. When Zaitoon turns sixteen-years-old, he also marries his adolescent daughter to a tribesman against her will.
