The article addresses the correspondence of the formal and informal communication and the influence of the communication type on the communication processes.

The article deals with the research of modern tendencies of language development. Special attention is given to the processes of democratization, to the penetration of informal communication principles into traditionally formal spheres. Negative consequences of speech liberation and of a careless attitude to language usage are identified.

The article discusses modern trends of language development, in particular the trend of principles of informal communication permeating traditionally formal spheres, thus creating pretexts for different communicative failures and conflicts. Therefore, the question of the person’s competence in choosing the type of communication acquires special importance.
