The Image of a Disgraced Princess in Memoires by Mlle de Montpensier

The article considers the protagonist image in Memoires by Mlle de Montpensier, related to the description of her life in exile after the Fronde events. The author analyzes how the royal disfavor impacts the changes in the views and inner world of the heroine. Comparing the text extracts written in exile with those written after it was over allows to show how the introspection deepens, and to draw the conclusion on the meaning of the memoire genre in the fate of the disgraced princess.

Childhood in the «Memoires» by Mlle De Montpensier

The article considers Mlle de Montpensier’s approach to depicting childhood on the materials of her «Memoires». The viewpoint of the memoire writer is analyzed as compared to the image of the protagonist; the significance of the ‘childhood’ piece in the context of the whole book is determined.

Heroic Spirit in Memoires by Mlle de Montpensier

The article considers instances of heroics in Memoires by Mlle de Montpensier on the example of the Fronde events. Her ideas of heroic behavior are analyzed as well as the development of the heroic content of the protagonist image under the influence of historic, ethical, and literary factors.

Cardinal de Retz and Niccolo Machiavelli’s Ideas (Based on Memoir)

The author considers how Nicollo Machiavelli’s ideas influenced Cardinal de Retz as the hero and the creator of the Memoirs (published in 1717). The author reveals the discrepancy between the memoir-writer’s proclaimed anti-Machiavellianism and his adoption of the ideas of the treatise Sovereign (1532). This discrepancy manifests itself on the level of the judgments and evaluations of the narrator, figures of speech, concept of the autobiographic hero.

Before the Turn: P. P. Blonsky’s Contribution to the Development of Pedagogical Journalism before 1917

The article is dedicated to the participation of a prominent scientist P. P. Blonsky (1884–1941) in pedagogical publications up to and including 1917. The article specially focuses on his collaboration with the journals Vestnik vospitaniya (Education Bulletin) and Svobodnoye vospitaniye (Free education). Based on archive materials, memoires and analysis of publications the conclusion is drawn on the significant contribution of P. P. Blonsky to the pre-Soviet pedagogical press.

Well-known memoirs from the period, together with criticism by Gerzen, Chernyshevsky, and Druzhinin, constitute a new literary-historical context which enabled a mid-XIX-th century reassessment of the previous thirty years of Russian literary history

In the article the history of the memoirs genre formation is considered; and its peculiarities in the XVIIth century French literature are defined against the background of the political and spiritual situation development, as well as historic thought and the aesthetics of the period.

Derzhavin and the reminiscences from his works being researched in the songs, poems and books of recollections by the singer poet of the second half of the XXth century A. Gorodnitsky: the means and functions of their application, their relation to the pressing issues of today and to the images of the contemporary authors.
