The article covers the problem of communicative failures, which arise when teachers and students of higher educational institutions use language game, and analyses the conditions of communication, which prevent the speaker from effectively fulfilling his/her communicative intention.

The article describes certain tactics and means used to soften the categoricity of the statement, which include the tactics of preventing the addressee’s negative reaction, the tactics of objection disguised as consent, the tactics of authorizing constructions, the tactics of employing non-categorical estimation and others.

The article traces the interrelation of the categoricalness notion and similar communicative categories, such as objectivity, truthfulness, and emotional capacity.

The article examines the causes of communication failures that occur in a TV conversation between journalists and experts invited to the studio of political talk shows. The article analyzes statements in live broadcasts that bring about communication failures; their effects are determined. It is shown that the main reason for communication failures in public space is speech aggression.
