Features of the functioning of numerals in the substandard lexicon of the African American social and ethnic dialect

Language, as an essential means of communication, is a constantly evolving system of sign units. It develops in accordance with established rules and laws, reflecting the living dynamics of society. Reflecting the character of the people, their thinking, culture, each language forms its own mechanism for expressing quantity. Addressing the problems of studying the number structure within a separate social and communicative system in close connection with the surrounding reality is relevant today.

Особенности функционирования числительных в английском языке афроамериканского социально-этнического диалекта (на материале субстандартной лексики)

В статье рассматривается специфика употребления числительных в субстандартной лексике афроамериканского социально-этнического диалекта. В рамках исследования выявляются функциональные, исторические, социо-культурные аспекты использования числительных в разговорной речи. Анализ выражения потенциала числительных показывает выдвижение на первый план проявления информационной, воздействующей и конспиративной функций. Благодаря метафорическому переносу числительные могут быть использованы для выражения оценочных значений.

English Language of African-American Social and Ethnic Dialect: Specificity of Speech Behaviour of its Representatives

Аrticle is dedicated to the issues of speech behavior of African-American population of the United States. The author considers both models of verbal behavior of African Americans (language game, signification) and non-verbal forms which serve as a source of replenishment of the dictionary of African-American social and ethnic dialect.
