Vladimir Nabokov, the Author of Don Quixote

The article analyzes the metareflection on Cervantes’s Don Quixote in Nabokov’s Lectures, draws an analogy between Nabokov’s Despair, Pnin and Cervantes’s Don Quixote. Such a form of Nabokov’s literary criticism as playing Don Quixote is considered.

Illness as a Social and Political Metaphor in Literature and Journalism of the ХХth Century

The article is dedicated to the analysis of the morbid metaphors employed in depicting social and political events of the Russian history of the XXth century on the material of literary and journalistic texts. Aesthetic and pragmatic functions of these metaphors are researched.

CONSCIOUSNESS AS "OPTICAL INSTRUMENT": ABOUT VISUAL ESTHETICS V. NABOKOVA

V. Nabokov's visual aesthetics is considered in the article as a reflection of the writer's philosophical indeterminism and is analyzed in the context of the optical experiments of the twentieth century art. A comparison is made of the visibility of Nabokov's prose with the aesthetics of photography.

 

CHEKHOV'S CHAIR "IN THE OBRAY" IN THE PERCEPTION OF THE WRITERS OF THE XX CENTURY

The article reviews the estimates of A.P. Chekhov "In the Ravine" writers of the twentieth century. (L. Tolstoy, M. Gorky, E. Zamyatin, V. Nabokov, I. Bunin, B. Zaitsev, K. Chukovsky, A. Solzhenitsyn). Writers are primarily interested in the artistic nature of the story, pay attention to the close and important features of poetics. As a result, the conclusion is drawn about the versatility of the story of A.P. Chekhov, as 

 

The Motive of Madness in V. Nabokov’s Prose

The article analyzes the motive of madness in V. Nabokov’s prose. The role of this motive in the writer’s visual experiments is investigated. The portrayal of mental disorders is considered as an ‘estrangement’device, destroying the automaticity of perception.
