The Principle of Politeness in Forming English Direct Request: Diachronic Analysis

Abstract: 

The article represents diachronic analysis of what changes the formation and usage of direct requests have undergone in British English. Special attention is paid to diachronic changes in the frequency of direct requests, as well as to the means of softening and intensifying direct requests.
