In memories-impressions of the main character of the novel «Idiot» on the Swiss nature, the tin cross and the condition before attacks of epilepsy the mechanism of mingling past with present based on the internal logic of hero’s subconsciousness is traced. External events are only a certain external impulse activating and provoking the work of thought, connecting the events of external life with those of spiritual life, which allows to estimate past events from the point of view of the present and actually is a way of mastering the reality.

The article studies the autobiographical book by Julian Barnes, the contemporary English postmodernist writer, where his personal memories illustrate the illusive nature of memory and its limits, revealing such mechanisms of memory as subjective interpretation, forgetting and imagining.

The article deals with problems of terminological unity, forms and boundaries of «memoir» genre in modern literary criticism on the example of F. M. Dostoevsky’s works. A lot of his letters, «Writer’s Diary», and also many fragments of his novels are closely related to memoir genre. Thus the laws of memoir narration are revealed in these parts of Dostoevsky’s literary heritage different in genre nature, but entering the original interaction with their own genre’s principles.

This paper covers the analysis of Jewish identity in the works of the French writer Georges Perec. The author comes to the conclusion that this problem has a significant impact on the poetics of Pereс, it is presented in the techniques of formal constraints and the ‘aesthetics of absence’, the purpose of which is to reconstruct Perec’s memory and past by means of language play.

The article discusses the intertextual connections of Vodolazkin’s novel The Aviator with V. Nabokov’s prose. The article specifically focuses on the function of Nabokov’s intertext in unveiling ideological and philosophical problems: comprehending the phenomenon of time and the creative ability of memory. The role of the word and literature in the struggle against amnesia is considered.
