This article considers the peculiarities of V. Khlebnikov’s short stories, revealed on the example of his story «Highlanders» in the context of his historical and philosophical views and successive connections with the Russian classical literature.

The article considers self-referential items in the oeuvre of Gaston Leroux – the master of a popular novel – particularly on the example of the Rouletabille cycle. The author pays closer attention to the novel Rouletabille and the Tsar in which Leroux inserted the data from his earlier articles and sketches about Russia.

The article analyzes how an old believer Bishop Mikhail (Semenov), one of the prominent opinion journalists of the 20th century, drew upon S. Ya. Nadson’s poetry. Bishop Mikhail used poem excerpts as quotes, which allowed him to express his own attitude to other literary works, to argue, to highlight his own opinion. The use of Nadson’s allegory of Love has a specific nature of its own. An original means of an individual reception of other authors has been brought to light.

In the article the contours of “Griboedov’s text” are outlined as a range of quotations and reminiscences from “Woe to Wit”; their literary and sense correlations as well as characteristic functioning in M.A. Bulgakov’s works are also touched upon.
