Verbal and Non-verbal Techniques of Creating the Comic in Creolized Texts of Social Advertisement

The article shows how the speaker of an advertising message widely uses the comic and the humorous in the discourse in order to optimize the process of perception.

The Link between the Speaker’s Gender and the Tactical and Strategic Speech Planning

The authors establish the connection between the speaker’s gender and the strategies used in creating free self-presentations on the dating websites. By means of statistical analysis a typical profiler is identified from the perspective of the age and self-presentation text volume. The authors describe the set of tactic and strategic techniques used by men and women in order to present themselves in the virtual communication space.

The article considers the distribution of grammatical classes in age
dynamics on the material of the individual lexicon of a pupil.

Linguo-Philosophical Reflection as a Result of a Long-term Speech Monitoring Survey

The article presents the author’s reflection generated by the results of long-term speech monitoring;
the reflection on the development of science in general and linguistics in particular, on the influence
of media language and speech of general population on the future of the language, on the role of
the Internet in language changes. The author emphasizes the role of the inductive approach and the
danger of inductively unsupported deductive assertions which often slow down the development of
science.

Frequently Used Color Adjectives in Modern French and Russian Printed Media

The article considers a comparative usage of French and Russian color adjectives in modern printed media. The author finds out common features and differences on the semantic, lexical and syntactic levels. The interdependence between the components of the phraseological units of color adjectives is identified.

The author compares signature peculiarities of the scientific discourse texts of the prominent XIXth century scientists Ch. Darwin and H. Spenser from the perspective of pragmatics and ways of knowledge presentation. The main aspects of comparison are text organization, mental presentations and the style of narration.

The article considers the models of forming metaphorical shifts in slang on the basis of the ‘Property and Exchange Relationships’ semantic field in the modern English language (its American variant). Target areas are revealed and analyzed from the statistical and cognitive perspectives.

Variability in Meaning of the Precedent Biblical text about Adam and Eve (on the Material of American English)

The article touches upon the topic of variability in the meaning of the precedent Biblical text about Adam and Eve in the discourse of the speakers of American English. Basic features of precedent phenomena are highlighted in comparison with idiomatic units and the conclusion is drawn on the absence of a fixed usual meaning of precedent phenomena.

Archaisms of the French Language in Canada

The article discusses archaisms in the French language of Canada. Being isolated from the French of France Canadian variant of French has undergone its development and has retained those lexical units and meanings which the French language of France has lost.

National Culture as a Factor of Forming Linguistic and Conceptual Pictures of the World (on the Example of Scientific World Picture in Jurisprudence)

The article deals with one of the disputable issues of cognitive linguistics – the possibility of national culture manifestation in the scientific legal picture of the world. On the analysis of different terminological research works the author proves that national culture may be inherent in many scientific world pictures (technical, natural, and humanitarian).
