Intentional Semantic Shift in the Sphere of Gradability Category (Adjectives and Adverbs)

The article considers instances of intentional semantic shift of nongradability – gradability in adjectives and adverbs, when adjectives and adverbs naming non-gradable characteristics are intentionally used with degree indices or intensifiers in order to create a new meaning.

National Culture as a Factor of Forming Linguistic and Conceptual Pictures of the World (on the Example of Scientific World Picture in Jurisprudence)

The article deals with one of the disputable issues of cognitive linguistics – the possibility of national culture manifestation in the scientific legal picture of the world. On the analysis of different terminological research works the author proves that national culture may be inherent in many scientific world pictures (technical, natural, and humanitarian).

Language Representation of Value Preferences of the Uralian People on the Data of the Local Press

The article presents an attempt of a linguoaxiological interpretation of the value preferences the Uralian people. The analysis focuses on the materials of the newspaper Gorodskiye vesti (City news) the target audience of which are the citizens of Revda in Sverdlovsk region. The authors reveal axiological constants of the sociocentric mentality and linguistic means of their representation.

A Semiotic Approach to the Analysis of the Creolized Texts Regarding the Identification of the Extremist Tenor

The article proves that the semiotic approach is effective in being
applied to the analysis of the texts containing signs of different origin;
it is as useful in holding expert research of material in order to identify
extremist meanings.

The Peculiarity of Applying a Thematic Frame to the Study of Similes in V. Nabokov’s English Novels (on the Material of the Novels Look at the Harlequins! and The Real Life of Sebastian Knight)

The article considers the attempt to apply one of the decoding stylistic techniques, namely the technique of drawing a thematic frame, to the research of similes and to the identification of the main themes and motives of the two English-language novels by V. Nabokov.

The Prospective Function of Spatial Meanings in the Organization of a Fiction Narrative

The article studies the prospection of the contexts with spatial semantics. Analyzing the initial parts of A. P. Chekhov’s stories in order to identify their probable prospection the author determines the principles of how the spatial contexts of the beginnings correlate with the structure of the whole narrative.

Frame Analysis of the Fragment of the Derivational Nest Semantically Related to the Name of Act «Benefaction»

This article presents the results of the propositional frame analysis of the fragment of the derivational nest with the «benefit» apex, semantically related to the name of act «benefaction» in the Russian language. The paper demonstrates that this group of cognate words represents a cohesive mental structure, knowledge about the situation of an act, referred to as «benefaction».

The Realization of the Conditionality Semantics in Sentences

The article studies the peculiarities of conditionality semantics in sentences with adverbial complicators. The author analyzes such meanings as cause, result, purpose, and condition.

Semantic Borrowing in Polysemy and Homonymy

The article is devoted to the study of the semantic borrowing process in the French language of Canada. Being the result of language contact, semantic borrowing leads to polysemy. Borrowing of a homonymous meaning can be regarded as an intermediate stage of polysemy decomposition and semantic homonym formation.

The Representation of the Nonce Referential Point by Present Tenses in English, French and Tatar Languages

The article considers the possibility of expressing referential meanings of nonce simultaneity by present tenses in English, French and Tatar languages.
