The article offers the analysis of the language of Cancer Ward novel as a significant component of the writer’s creative method, which was formed in the 1950–1960s. The article considers ways of ‘recreating’ the ideologically colored word in Solzhenitsyn’s prose.

The article considers the teleological structure of A. I. Solzhenitsyn’s novel Cancer Ward. The combination of the social teleology polemic towards the Soviet novel and the transcendental teleology is analyzed on the level of the system of images-worldviews, on the levels of composition and language.

In the article the problem of evil revealed in Solzhenitsyn’s story as the terrible reality of the fallen world is considered in the aspect of the significant situations of the test to which the camp society and the hero are subjected. According to the analysis, in the course of the narration, into which the situations of testing are interwoven, the essence of the camp society is revealed as a definite structure of life, and the character of the hero and his system of values are tested.
 

The monograph under review is a continuation of the author’s research in the field of visual poetics of the Russian literature. The ‘optics’ proposed in the book allows to see the medical plots of literary texts in a new way, to comprehend aesthetic and existential experience of the disease.
